Woolston Infant School
History
History Ambition statement 2024
At Woolston Infant School we strive for the teaching of history to inspire curiosity about the past both in Britain and beyond. The curriculum content for history is rich in both knowledge and skills. It exposes children to new and relevant vocabulary, develops their understanding of chronology and ordering events and allows children to understand abstract content through becoming familiar with sources and evidence.
Our history curriculum provides ample opportunity for children to ask perceptive questions, begin to think critically, sift arguments, weigh and judge evidence and begin to develop individual perspective. Through the teaching of history, we endeavour to communicate to children the complexity of people’s lives, the process of significant changes, the diversity of contemporary societies and relationships between groups, as well as considering their own identity and challenges in modern times.
