Woolston Infant School Art Statement of Intent

We provide an Art curriculum that immerses pupils in learning that is memorable, engaging and meaningful. The Art curriculum enables pupils to acquire and develop the knowledge, skills and vocabulary they need to be successful artists. Our Art curriculum will enable the children to develop, apply and embed their skills through linked topic learning, building on what they already know and can do.

Pupils following the National Curriculum will use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination as well as developing a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. Children will learn about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work.

Children will be given time and the opportunity to work individually or collaboratively on a programme of art and design, using a variety of tools and media with a strong emphasis on enjoyment.
