Curriculum Vision: Geography

At Woolston Infant School our ambition is for each and every child to develop a curiosity and fascination about the world around them that will remain with them throughout their lifetime. Every child has the opportunity to explore, observe, and find out about people, places, natural and human physical factors – equipping them with the skills necessary to be a geographer. We offer our children a diverse and knowledge rich curriculum which is deeply rooted in the locality of the school and its surrounding areas. Frequent opportunities are provided to observe and record seasonal changes in weather. The curriculum progression will expand outwards from our immediate locality (Woolston) to comparing and contrasting globally – linking to the overarching aim of promoting global citizenship. Children are guided to make sense of the physical world and their community with regular opportunities for fieldwork to embed the key concepts of location and place, mapping and land use.
